Researchers working in Ontario and Nova Scotia will be delighted
with six important references originally published by Genealogical
Publishing Company and now available as a Family Archive. Included
titles are:
- Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867, Volumes I and II by Leonard
H. Smith
- Loyalists and Land Settlement in Nova Scotia by Marion Gilroy
- Yarmouth, Nova Scotia Genealogies Transcribed from the Yarmouth
Herald by George S. Brown
- Early Ontario Settlers by Norman K. Crowder
- Ontario People: 1796-1803 by E. Keith Fitzgerald.
The six books list information for approximately 131,000 individuals.
Since the CD contains images of the actual pages of the books,
you can read the original books' introductions, tables of contents,
bibliographies, and even view individual indexes (although all
names are included in the searchable electronic index).
The information you'll find is varied; for instance, Nova
Scotia Immigrants to 1867, Vols. I and II contain abstracts
on immigrants from manuscript sources at the Public Archives of
Nova Scotia and other locations, as well as from 450 articles
in various Nova Scotia periodicals. Typical information includes
individual's name, occupation, place of origin, age, family members,
name of ship, date of arrival, and military affiliation. Loyalists
and Land Settlement in Nova Scotia contains information about
the approximately 10,000 Loyalists who were eligible to receive
land in Nova Scotia. Typical information includes the individual's
name, date and site of the land grant, and acreage.
