OVILLA A. BUCKLEY:
She died 5 minutes before her youngest son, Fred, was born. Son says spelling of her name on his birth certificate was Rovilla Buckley Graybeal. Lola Graybeal Peck, who knew her as a small girl, says spelling was Ovilla A. Buckley. Lola's parents, John M. & Belle Graybeal, spelled it Ovilla A. Brickley in their bible, the different spelling possibly because of misinterpretation of cursive writing.

Notes for J
OHN BURRELL GRAYBEAL:
John B. Graybeal had a third-grade formal education and spent his entire working career as a railroad telegrapher and station agent for various railroads, mostly the Northern Pacific Railroad (NPRR). Because of his color-blindness, he worked in depots at the 'end of the line'. During the late 1890's, during the Spanish-American War, he worked in Guatemala on the railroad. He wrote a long letter about Guatemala in about 1897 to his sister Ella which the mayor (their father) of Raymore, MO, had published in the local Raymore newspaper. Upon his return to the states, he toured the southwest and west coast, via rail, and ended up in the northwest where he spent the remainder of his life. His brother Curtis and sister Lola followed him west and also remained, Curtis settling in Bellingham, WA, and Lola in Olympia, WA. John left an interesting journal of his expenditures on his trip west during 1900-04.
J.B., as he was known, out-lived three wives. His second wife, Doretta, was half his age when they married in 1921. He was 59 when his last child, Richard, was born. He had worked for NPRR in many towns in WA state before he retired in 1939 to a ten-acre cherry orchard/farm in Buckley, WA. He died of old age at the age of 91 in the NPRR Hospital in Tacoma, WA, and is buried in Tacoma, WA, in the Cedar section of Mountain View Cemetery between his first and third wives. Sources: birth, death, marriage records, deeds, family historical information.

ORETTA ORMA JULSON:
Teacher by training. When she was 14 years old, she had measles and whooping cough the same time, according to her sister, Sibyl. She and her sisters, Shirley and Isabel, all had whooping cough at the same time; their mother frantically tried to save all of them, but lost Isabel. The doctor said Doretta could not have been sick like this at a worse age. She was sickly ever since. At the age of 40, Doretta suffered a stroke after cutting down a cherry tree with an ax. The stroke affected her right side, and she had to learn to write with her left hand. Six months later she had another stroke which killed her.
Her niece, Ruth Schlottman, was temporarily living with her and caring for the family and two small boys at the time of Doretta's death.
Her husband, John, was working in Moclips, WA at the time, and was due to retire six months later, on 1 MAR 1939, which he did. The boys, Kenneth and Richard, went to live with him until March when he retired and moved back to Buckley. John, Jr., was a senior in high school at the time of his mother's death; he lived in Buckley by himself until the rest of the family returned from Moclips. She is buried next to her parents in the IOOF Cemetery in Tumwater, WA. Sources: Birth, marriage, death records; printed obituary, family historical information.
